Under MCL 28.457(2), state law allows consumer fireworks use year-round with no date or time restrictions IF the local municipality has not enacted a restricting ordinance. Local units of government (townships, cities, villages) may enact ordinances restricting or prohibiting use outside the protected holiday windows listed above. During the protected holiday windows, no local ordinance can restrict use after 11:00 AM. Many municipalities have enacted local restrictions on non-holiday days.
